Abbco Locksmiths is a Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) accredited business, operating in Sydney since 1964 and family-owned under the current ownership. We work from our shop at 1455 Botany Rd, Botany, with our mobile team covering Bondi and the broader Eastern Suburbs. Every job starts with an upfront quote, and there is no call-out fee on scheduled appointments.
Key Cutting in the Eastern Suburbs
Key cutting is one of our most requested services, from house key duplicates through to fobs for late-model vehicles. Keys are cut in-store, and our mobile team runs a same-day service Sydney-wide.
Types of Keys We Cut
We cut standard house and residential keys, padlock keys and mailbox keys across all common profiles. Restricted keys are also covered, issued against a signature record tied to the keyholder, which is why they are trusted for strata buildings, offices and shared-access premises. For vehicles, we cut mechanical car keys and program electronic fobs across most makes and models, with transponder and remote programming.
In-Shop and Mobile Key Cutting
Most house and padlock keys are cut within ten to fifteen minutes. Bring your original key in, and our locksmiths will take care of the rest. For customers across Sydney who can’t come to us, our mobile team handles emergency on-site key cutting for lockouts, strata work or tenant changeovers.
Our Key Cutting Process - Step by Step
Every key cut by our team follows the same process, whether the work is done at our store or by our mobile locksmiths on-site. The steps below cover what to expect from booking through to sign-off.
1. Identify the key profile
We inspect the original key or the lock cylinder and select the correct blank from our in-shop stock.
2. Cut and verify
The profile is cut on commercial-grade machines and checked against the original to confirm the cut is accurate.
3. Fit test
The new key is tested in the lock where possible, at the shop or on-site, to confirm smooth operation before sign-off.
4. Hand over
Standard keys are handed over on the spot. Restricted keys are logged against a signature record before release.
Lock Services for Homes and Businesses
Beyond key cutting, our team covers the full range of lock services for homes, rentals, strata and commercial premises across Botany, Bondi and the Eastern Suburbs. Work is carried out either in-store or by our mobile team on-site, depending on the job.
Lock Changes and Upgrades
Lock changes are commonly requested after moving in, after a break-in, or when existing locks have worn beyond repair. Our team assesses the existing hardware, recommends the right replacement for your door and security needs, and installs deadbolts, mortice locks, digital keypad locks and high-security cylinders. Finishes are matched to existing door fittings where possible.
Rekeying
Rekeying is a cost-effective alternative to replacing every lock. The original locks stay in place, but the internal pin configuration is changed so old keys no longer operate them. It is the standard approach for tenant changeovers, lost keys and routine security refreshes. Our mobile team handles rekeying on-site, usually in a single visit, and can align multiple locks to one new key.
Lock Repairs and Broken Keys
Broken keys, sticking mechanisms and faulty latches are repairable in most cases. We extract broken keys, service worn cylinders and replace internal components where needed. If the lock is beyond repair, a replacement is quoted before the work proceeds. Safes and vaults, as well as mailbox locks, are also covered.

Locksmith Service FAQS
How much does key cutting cost?
Cost depends on the key type. Standard house, padlock and mailbox keys are priced per key in-store. Restricted keys are priced per key with ID verification against the system record. Call our team or request a quote online for an exact figure.
Can any locksmith cut restricted keys?
No. Restricted keys can only be cut by locksmiths authorised under the specific restricted key system. Our shop is an authorised issuer for multiple systems and can confirm whether your key is restricted before cutting.
What is the difference between rekeying and changing locks?
Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration so a new key is required to operate the lock, while the lock body stays in place. Changing locks means removing the existing hardware and installing a new lock. Rekeying is faster and more affordable. Changing locks is the right option when you want upgraded hardware.
Should I rekey or change my locks after moving?
Rekeying is usually sufficient if the existing locks are in good condition, because it invalidates any keys held by previous occupants. If the locks are worn or not to your preferred security standard, a full lock change is the better option. Our team can assess the hardware on-site and recommend the right approach.
Do you cut car keys and program fobs?
Yes. We cut mechanical car keys and program electronic fobs for most makes and models, both at our Botany shop and through our mobile auto locksmith service. Transponder programming for late-model vehicles is handled as part of our car keys and auto locksmith service.
How long does key cutting take?
Most house and padlock keys are cut in ten to fifteen minutes while you wait. Restricted keys take slightly longer due to record verification. Car keys and programmed fobs typically take twenty to forty-five minutes, depending on the vehicle.
Can a locksmith come to me in Bondi?
Yes. Our mobile team services Bondi, Bondi Junction and the wider Eastern Suburbs daily. You can request a mobile locksmith for key cutting, lock changes, rekeying, lockouts and security upgrades. Same-day service is available in most cases, with a 24-hour response for emergencies.
What ID do I need for restricted key cutting?
Photo identification matching the name on the restricted key system record is required, plus written authorisation if you are cutting on behalf of a strata committee, landlord or business. Call Abbco to confirm the exact requirements for your system.
Do you offer emergency locksmith service out of hours?
Yes. Our 24-hour emergency locksmith service covers Bondi and the Eastern Suburbs for lockouts, broken keys, post-break-in repairs and other urgent jobs. After-hours response times and pricing are outlined in full under that service.
